Matty is a sweet little Red Heeler, She is only about 6-8 mos old. She was recently rescued from a high kill pound where she would have surely died. She is a darling dog, she is good with other dogs. The only thing with Matty is she has something going on with her where she chases her own tail in a hostile way, going after her tail like it's a sworn enemy. Her tail was infected when she first came to rescue-from her biting it. 2 vetting consultations considered tail amputation as a way of perhaps helping her get her focus off her tail and keeping it from being reinfected by her biting it. Her tail has been amputated and she still is chasing her "tail."
Matty's foster reports that she does not seem to chase her tail when she is outside and loves to be outside.
We are considering her then to be potentially a farm dog..since she seems to thrive outside. We are not sure what causes her to chase her tail. Our vet is researching medication that may help.
