From Willow's foster:

Willow is a pretty girl!  She is gentle and sweet.  She is also a true hound!   She uses all of her senses to explore the world around her.  It is a wonder to behold!  She makes an excellent exercise partner.  She walks forward briskly and with purpose, but occasionally needs to follow her nose or try and go after a squirrel!  She will pull pretty hard when that’s the case, but can get back on track pretty quickly with a little whistle and some encouragement.  She will need someone who understands that these traits are hard-wired and help her to release some of that hound energy!

That said, she is not reactive to other dogs on a leash and will politely touch noses if allowed.  She has no issues walking past cars whizzing by her long, pretty ears!  She is not fazed by people or loud noises.

Willow is doing great!  She has really settled into the day-to-day happenings of life in our home.  Not sure if she lived indoors in her previous life, at first everything seemed to amaze her (dishwasher, stairs, doors).  No fear, just so curious about everything!  She is much more relaxed now, not following our every move and MUCH improved on “window hunting” every squirrel within eyeshot!

That brings me to walking!  Willow has a very strong need to track.  Personally, if feel like dogs should be dogs as much as possible, so I let her do so within reason.  Most of our walk is spent walking at a nice pace with slack in her leash.  She occasionally gets on a scent and will pull pretty hard.  Her excitement level gets very high when she spots a rabbit (the darn things freeze in her presence! Why?! LOL!) and you need a pretty strong grip to hold onto her.  This also used to be the case with squirrels, but to our amazement, she has decided they aren’t worth the trouble!!!  It has been a huge transformation for her and we couldn’t be happier!  Another bonus, she is NOT dog reactive on her leash or ever, for that matter.  Willow LOVES exploring new places and will happily hop in the car and go anywhere!  She has an incredible memory and can remember where she got a good scent from a week earlier!

Although she’s pretty much fearless, we did discover that she does not like fireworks.  In particular the big, loud ones you hear in the distance.  Around the fourth was somewhat difficult for her (evenings mostly).  We did get her a thunder shirt which worked great!  Her reactions weren’t extreme, she’d just head for the basement when the booms got more numerous.  She’s pace a little and hide under the table when it was at its worst, but nowhere near some of the extreme fear behaviors I’d heard of.  Willow is NOT afraid of storms or even other loud noises, it seems to be those fireworks exclusively.

Willow never fails to make us laugh!  She loves to “silly stretch” where she rolls around making noises and biting the air!  Sometimes she gets the zoomies and spins and does her “happy bark”.  She is an extremely joyful, happy dog!  Of all the dogs we’ve fostered, I have to say she is the most gentle and loving of them all.  She deserves a family who will love and appreciate her, for sure!
