Trevor is @ 2.5 years old.
@ 45-50 lbs.

Trevor is good with dogs, however does have some leash reactivity. Not good with cats, okay with kids, but we think he should be in a home without kids because he is easily stressed by lots of people. His reaction to new people is cautious when not on leash, but once you give him treats and he knows you he loves you! When on leash he is nervous when meeting new people and sometimes barks at strangers.  Trevor is current on all vaccinations and microchipped.

Training:

Trevor has passed 3 levels of AHS obedience classes (see this page for details: https://www.animalhumanesociety.org/behavior/obedience-courses). He knows his name, sit, heel, lay down, shake, stay, wait, high 5, go to bed, crate, come, leave it, “kennel up” to get in car. He is very good on leash and does not pull. He is very responsive to obedience training and is very food motivated and eager to please. He has good recall in controlled situations, but he has run away when off leash and it takes some time for him to return. Verbal commands are ineffective when he is off leash in an uncontrolled environment. Trevor needs ongoing patience and training with an experienced dog person to help him with behaviors that come from anxiety and reactivity.

Personality:

Trevor is a lover! He wants nothing more than to snuggle on the couch, sleep in your bed, and be touching one of his humans whenever possible. And he loves to play! He loves throwing his toys up in the air and pouncing on them. When he is at home he is relaxed, calm, settles easily, takes lots of naps, and is super cute and goofy. He has a moderate energy level and needs good exercise every day to keep his brain and nose busy. He doesn’t chew, steal food, or get into the trash. He loves playing with other dogs. He should never be trusted with cats or other small animals – the hound prey drive is strong!

A big consideration with Trevor is his anxiety. He is scared of big loud things like buses, garbage trucks, loud cars, big equipment like backhoes, etc. and he is easily startled by bikes, joggers, or anything that comes at him fast, so living and walking in the city requires vigilance, patience, and reward-based training. When he gets scared, his first reaction is to lunge and bark, which can be a lot to handle. He struggles with leash reactivity and any issues he has when not on leash are amplified when he is on leash. He is great with other dogs, but on leash he sometimes has terrible manners. He has been boarded with other dogs and goes to doggy day care and does really well. He has growled (just a few times) at kids that come suddenly into his space when he is tired, but he does not escalate if the kids back off. The bottom line is, when he is relaxed, he is really a sweet, good boy, but if something makes him anxious he is harder to manage.

What Trevor needs:

Trevor needs room to run, a fenced yard, a person (or people) with a quiet lifestyle and patience and experience with dogs. Because he is easily overstimulated he would thrive in a home outside the city with less noise and more room. He would love his people to be home a lot because travelling makes him anxious. Though he is good with older kids, he does not like big groups of loud people and he can sometimes get protective of his space if his boundaries are not respected, so we would like him to go to a home without kids to be safe. But he would love to have a dog brother or sister to show him that the things he thinks are really scary are OK! Trevor has so much love to give and will thrive in the right home.
