Jack Jack is approximately 3 years old and 20 lbs. and displays strong characteristics and traits of the Shiba Inu breed.

He loves “scritches” and pets and generally likes being held by people he feels comfortable with. He is sweet with children and will even let them repeatedly give him the iconic Shiba “squishy face”.  He seems to do ok with other dogs but it would really be best if he were an only pet. He loves to chase bunnies in the yard and has even caught a couple so having smaller animals in the house would not work well.

Jack Jack is really fast! He is also a little escape artist (a common trait of the Shiba) and needs an enclosed yard with a 6ft fence if he is outside on his own. Going on long walks and smelling all of the smells is one of his favorite pastimes.

His human must be very diligent to not let him get outside without a leash or 6ft enclosure. This is very important for his safety because he is a confirmed runner and is very hard to catch!  This little guy can be very fearful and startles pretty easily. Men seem to make him extremely anxious—some more than others—so he would really feel the most secure in a house with females only.

He will likely form a strong bond with one human and be tolerant of others in the house. He is not aggressive but has been known to bark and growl at anyone he doesn’t know or fully trust.

Once you earn his trust, he is just a sweetheart! He gives kisses and just adores snuggles and lap time. He can be very chill during the day but if he is feeling anxious or under-exercised he can be mildly destructive to carpets or rugs. A designated little rug or bath mat in addition to his bed is a good time for him because he can lay on it AND pull out the carpet fibers if he feels the need. Smaller kids toys that may seem like dog toys are fair game to him so please keep them off the floor if you don’t want to see them maimed!

He seems to have more independent, cat-like qualities at times but also has a very playful puppy-like spirit. He is overall a very happy, healthy, silly dog who will absolutely shower his favorite human with love and affection…all he wants is to be showered with love and affection in return. And treats! Don’t forget the treats! ;)
